Aladdin Oil Kerosene Diamond Quilt Lamp Jade Moonstone
Depression era lighting with that oh so magical name! Crafted in jade green omonstone art glass. Welcome to simpler times antiques! Here for your consideration today we're offering this vintage aladdin kerosene lamp in lovely jade green color.
Introduced around 1937, this was aladdin's model b-86. The color was advertised as jade green moonstone art glass, and it's a soft jade green that would coordinate wonderfully with the jad-ite glass kitchenwares that were being produced about that same time. It's equipped with a nu-type model b burner that's marked chicago on the knob. No chimney is included with this lamp. Close inspection reveals a lamp body that's damage free.
We found no chips, cracks, or repairs of on teh glass body. It's well moulded and has a good pattern definition. The color is rich and even overall. We gave the lamp a light cleaning, but otherwise it's strictly as found.
To display really well you're probably going top want ot clean and polish the metal parts including the connector, threaded collar, and the oil fill cap. They're all tarnished and dirty. The burner also has a couple of issued to be dealt with. First, the lox on gallery has been crushed on one side and needs to be replaced. You'll see this in the photos.
There's a wick in the burner, but we could not get the wick lifter to operate. Our guess is that it's gummed up with kerosene residue and needs to soak in some solvent to free it up.
The interior of the font was nasty with residue, btu we cleaned it with warm water and a couple of denture cleaner tablets. If you've never tried that method it works great. Just let it sit and soak for about 30 minutes. Overall this is a lamp that looks really good and hsa only a couple of minor issues. Minimal effort will be required to put it back into ready to burn condition. Additionally, since electric conversions are easily available you may want ot go that route and actually use this lamp daily. We feel like this is a lamp that will give its new owner a lot of satisfaction. By hte way, we apologize for the blurred photo of the bottom of the lamp foot. It also is damage free.
Those three white spots are residue from stick on protective feet that were once present. Similar lamps are found in shoppes every dya with prices well over $100.00. Naturally, we'll pack carefully to help assure a safe arrival.
