Antique Art Nouveau French Bronze Lamp Signed G Leleu
This old bronze nouveau lamp stansd 16 tall from base to the bottom of the harp. The base is signed g, leleu on the outter edge and underneath on the bottom it is signed 1906 and stamped in 218 and lr.
tI was originally an oil lamp that was electrified. The standing base which is signed is heavy cast bronze with beautifully modeled thistle leaves. I can see that the upper font is not original to the piece.
At some point in tmie someone crafted this part replicating the thistle leaf motif in brass. But the craftsmanship doesn't comprae to the extravagant modeling on the original base. However the proportions are appropriate for the piece.
The lamp does light and the old switch appears to indicaet that it was wired if france. I googled georges leleu and found some info about his career and similar complete examples of one of his lamps which is stunning.
Apparently he had a salon in paris at the turn of the century where he exhibited his work. The style is pure art nouveau and even though not all original it's an attractive lamp! I want to add that the font which holds the electrified post and ahrp is a little loose to the tooch where it sits in the font, but it is actually attached to the font.
